About Us

The Department of Music at National Sun Yat-sen University offers Bachelor of Arts degree in Voice, Piano, String, Wind, Percussion, Composition/Applied Music, as well as Master of Arts degree in Theory and Composition, Musicology, Conducting (Choral, Wind, Orchestral) and Performance (Voice, Piano, String, Wind, Percussion). Founded in 1989, The Department of Music aims to equip students with professional competence in music and humanistic spirits. Established for thirty years, the Department of Music continues to provide the students numerous opportunities to perform with large and small ensembles on campus areas also at local cultural/music centers in Kaohsiung. Many concerts, performances, master classes, lectures, faculty and guest artist recitals are held each year and open to the public.

 

Facilities

Supported by the university authorities and sponsors from the society, the Department of Music is committed to upgrading the facilities to meet students’needs for studying. To enhance our teaching environment, the Department of Music was moved from Art Center to its present site in the Fine Arts Building in 2001. It has excellent resources including Recital Hall, practice rooms, a professional recording studio, Early Music Room (equipped with harpsichord, spinet, virginal, clavichord, woodwind and viola da gamba), Orchestra Room, Chorus Room, Popular Music Lab, Electronic Music Lab, Digital Composition Studio, Music Library and Resource Center (with extensive collections of books, journals, scores as well as audio and visual resources), Piano Room and other professional rooms. Students are able to advance their professional skills with these facilities.
