Western Music History, Music Aesthetics
Ph. D (Melbourne University)
Kuo Chiung-Chiao holds a Ph.D. in Musicology from the University of Melbourne, Australia. She is currently Professor of Musicology in the Department of Music at National Sun Yat-sen University, where she is actively engaged in teaching, research, and scholarly publication in international journals and books.
Her research focuses primarily on music of the late twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Her publications have explored a wide range of topics, including women in music and the works of Peter Maxwell Davies, John Adams, Alfred Schnittke, Daniel Bernard Roumain, and other contemporary composers. Her major publications include Tracing the Beats: The Fusion of American Vernacular and Western Art Music and The Kaleidoscope of Women’s Sounds in Music of the Late 20th and Early 21st Centuries.
At National Sun Yat-sen University, she teaches courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including American Music History, Music Aesthetics and Criticism, Contemporary Music, Western Music History, Introduction to Music Research, and Survey of Western Music History, among others.
She has also actively organized national and international scholarly conferences at National Sun Yat-sen University, including the 2015 Taiwan Musicology Forum and the 2020 International Music Conference. Through these academic events, she has sought to provide students with opportunities to present their research, engage with scholars from diverse backgrounds, and broaden their academic perspectives.
