Kheng K. Koay holds a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Melbourne. She is currently a Professor of Musicology in the Music Department at National Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan. Her articles and chapters appear in numerous scholarly journals and books and have been presented at several international conferences. Her current research interests focus on late 20th-and-early 21st centuries- music. She has also commenced publishing her articles on analyses of women music, Peter Maxwell Davies, John Adams, Alfred Schnittke, Daniel Bernard Roumain and others. She is the author of Tracing the Beats: The Fusion of American Vernacular and Western Art Music (2013), and The Kaleidoscope of Women’s Sounds in Music of the Late 20th and Early 21st Centuries (2015).
At the Music Department, Koay teaches undergraduate and graduate music histories courses, including American Music History, Music Aesthetics and Criticism, Contemporary Music, Western Music History, Introduction to Music Research, Graduate Music History Review and others. To enhance students’ opportunities and experiences, she also organizes national and international music conferences for scholars and students (2015 Taiwan Musicology Forum, 2020 International Music Conference and others).
